The merge of XIVPads into this site is going well, in the last dev blog I finished all core code functionality and now its just design and user experience stuff left, which means not long left! XIVSync is a server I run that tracks characters on Lodestone, it can generate statistics, track leveling progress, achievements, ranking and even minor changes to a characters profile data (server hopping, grand companies, etc XD)
I don't have much to show in this, so here is a little diagram of how it all works!
- XIVSync is a server in Japan. This is so that parsing a page takes a fraction of a second (screenshots from local environment, not live!), the server has a continuous schedule to update characters, auto add characters and update achievements. This service has been running for the past 4 years! Ever since FF 1.0! So a lot of difficulties have been figured out :D
- XIVDB will retrieve this information whenever a profile is loaded and show all kinds of information!
The general design will look very familiar to those who've used XIVPads, so to get an idea you can have a look at my profile over there. It isn't possible to add characters there anymore (transferring data soon, content freeze!) but you can get an idea of how things will look :D
In the next update, I hope to have a lot more visual stuff, all next week I am building the layout frames and hopefully things should go well as it's mostly migration work, no learning curve!
With the next update I plan to introduce Chinese (Simplified) translations. This has been long awaited until I worked with Clorifex (from GarlandTools!) and we looked at making our data extraction tool work with it. A "quick fix" worked and I am able to mass export Chinese data. Some things to note for this:
- The Chinese client is a few patches behind (at least 1 major and a few minor patches), this causes problems when the global client updates and its data structure is different than a previous patch. I can add Chinese language to all patches up to where that client currently is, but it will have to wait until it gets new patches until the newest data is translated.
- The Chinese client has exclusive quests and items, they have a lot more low level grindy quests, a lot of EXP/bonus type items and random items with crazy stats at low level. About 150 items in total and a dozen or so quests. Because their patch data is behind, I cannot reliable import these and be sure the data is correct. An item may say its for Bard when its actually Warrior because the data position for Job role has moved in the global version of the game, but not theirs. So I have to decide if I should ignore exclusive items, or include with a notice stating this issue on the pages.
Anyway! Thats all I have right now, back to work :D
Enjoy your adventuring!!
